Election Fraud CAN Be Caught (it takes work)

Preparing for November is like running a triathlon on a tightrope.  On the one hand, voter turnout and batting away fake accusations of fraud are critical.  But on the other, the prospect of election theft is terrifying, and very few influencers have advanced a workable plan to actually defend against theft by fraud.

It is, however, possible.

As described in LAProgressive,

Ask the Voters, a grassroots project backed by a handful of election integrity activists, writers and software engineers, has a possible solution.  Ask the voters - all of the voters in a targeted, suspect precinct.

The idea is simple, kindergarten-simple ... If cheating occurs, it is often concentrated.  By analyzing the precinct level numbers, it is possible to tell which precincts are most suspect.  Then have volunteer canvassers walk and attempt to gather affidavits from every voter in the precinct.  If more TOTAL affidavits can be gathered swearing to have voted for candidate X, than recorded votes for candidate X, that is evidence every American can understand.

The key is, to have candidates prepared to canvas, if necessary, *after* the election, and to make their challenge in time before votes are certified.

This is a tough ask in some ways — campaigns are exhausted by election night, and may feel crushed by a defeat.  So its crucial to be prepared psychologically, that another phase of the race may begin right after the election, and to know where to turn for help.

Several groups are ready to assist.  Ask the Voters and DemocracyCounts both have data analysts standing by to help candidates determine which precincts to target, that are most likely to demonstrate fraud.  Clint Curtis who has done this before successfully is himself running for office in Florida, but he is also ready to provide sample affidavits and encouragement from his experience doing exactly this.

As described at the time to BradBlog, they looked at specific precincts, like Florida District 66, where the official numbers recorded that only 55% of the democrats who voted, voted for him, the democratic candidate.  That didn't add up.  When the volunteers knocked on doors, they were able to get affidavits from about 80% of the democrats who voted, swearing that they in fact voted for Curtis.  And the TOTAL number of those affidavits, was larger than the TOTAL number of votes that had been officially tallied for him in that precinct.

Knowing that proving fraud is possible, can give candidates the confidence to go forward with the effort.  We can’t afford to give up early.

Actions can be taken before and during the election as well, that can help pinpoint fraud:

SeeSay2020.com allows voters to report any kind of irregularity or barrier to voting, to develop a nationwide map of voter intimidation, misinformation, lack of access to poll tapes and any other indication of problems.

ProtectOurVotes.com offers another solution [in addition to  ActualVote from DemocracyCounts]  for photographing poll tapes, in order to preserve the the all-important precinct level totals that are needed for verification - and to make sure the tabulators are not doing funny arithmetic when adding them up, or changing the local totals after the fact. Tabulators should separately report the totals from election day, from those ballots counted after - the more subtotals that are reported, the better for verification.

These efforts are especially important in states like Georgia, where the QR code is the official vote and no meaningful audits are conducted; or Florida where wireless tabulators remain in use despite warnings from security experts.

Spreading the word that election audits ARE possible may even help defuse false accusations of ‘massive mail in ballot fraud’.  If there were mail-in ballot fraud, this method would catch it.

Simply put, by asking the voters any kind of fraud CAN be caught.  Every vote MUST be tied to a real, physical address.  So if a ballot were faked, when a canvasser knocks on the door, that will be made clear. If you knock on a door to verify a recorded vote and the person answers, 'What are you talking about?  Who is that?' or "Yeah, that's me, but I didn't vote, get lost." - then you've caught the fraud.  It's that simple.

For voters convinced by GOP messaging that mail in fraud is a danger, it may be healthier to explain to them HOW to catch it, than to simply tell them that it doesn’t occur.  This also opens up the possibility to discuss all vulnerabilities, and how to stop them.

...discussions of election fraud provide an opportunity to discuss the very real evidence of vote manipulation by electronic voting machines.  Jonathon Simon in CODE RED: Computerized Elections and The War on American Democracy, asks - begs- Americans to take a hard look at the evidence that our elections have ALREADY been significantly hacked.

As Simon points out, this insidious threat is in some ways more dangerous than violence.  Election theft can allow the culprits to "steal and hold power that could not be gained and held legitimately.  Ultimately to reshape American more effectively than could a junto rolling tanks down Pennsylvania Avenue.  The junta would, by its very visibiity, at least provoke resistance."

We’re provoked. The question is, are we provoked enough to resist effectively?
