Try searching on Google for ‘putin assassination’. Unless the Google wizards have fixed it, your first link will start with the words “Brave Vladmir Putin...” and go on from there to explain how the “secret cabal” of the “New World Order” is attempting to assassinate Putin and “install a patsy in his place”.
I’m pretty sure this site is not legitimately at the top of Google’s search results. There are ways to hijack PageRank, the algorithm by which Google decides which results to display first, primarily by paying money to highly ranked sites to link to the one you want. This practice isn’t illegal, but to get to the top position on Google takes a concerted effort.
So someone, with either a lot of technical resources or financial, or both, is playing games to get this particular story out. I don’t know about you, but I find this somewhat disturbing.
Or, maybe conspiracy theories are so popular that this guy really does have the #1 spot based on links? But I find that hard to believe especially since there are so many other stories with those words, that relate to things Putin has done rather than that were done to him. Search for
“newyorktimes.com putin assassination”
to see those.
Pagerank manipulation is common, but this particular word combination is what I find concerning.
I sent a note about this to abuse@google.com so I’m hoping they track it down and continue the good fight, and the links change. This one has been up there since at least Monday morning 9/13/2016. There really is a war behind the scenes, but its not the “New World Order” doing it.
